Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter named to Minnesota Physician’s Health Care Architecture Honor RollMANKATO, Minn. (July 8, 2008) — The Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter has been named to Minnesota Physician’s (MP) 2008 Architecture and Design Honor Roll. The 64,000 sf long-term care facility, designed by Paulsen Architects, was featured in the Minneapolis-based publication’s June issue. Each year, MP solicits nominations and recognizes exceptionally designed facilities throughout the state. This new, city-owned facility replaces an obsolete building that was attached to an abandoned hospital in St. Peter. The Benedictine Living Community is designed in three distinct sectors--one is the two-story atrium entry with administration offices, common gathering spaces, amenities and services. This light-filled main entry is linked on either side with two main care center wings. The entire complex sits adjacent to the main hospital in St. Peter providing convenient medical access.
“It was a great pleasure to work on this wonderful project for the City of St. Peter and Benedictine Health System. One of the most gratifying aspects of this project was the integration of the architecture and building materials with the existing Community Hospital facility,” explains Bryan Paulsen, AIA, President of Paulsen Architects. “The architecture for both buildings could stand on its own, but together the architectural statement is one of bold design.”
Paulsen Architects, a full-service architecture, engineering, interior design and planning firm based in Mankato, worked closely with the Benedictine Health System and the City of St. Peter during the planning, design and construction phases of this joint project to ensure that the needs of the residents, families, administration and community were brought forward and integrated into the award-winning skilled nursing care facility. “The facility is really beautiful both inside and out but more than that, it helps create an atmosphere that improves the quality of life for its residents,” says Todd Prafke, City Administrator for the City of St. Peter. “For my community, it’s not just about how its looks, it is about how it impacts the people that use it. This building has made the lives of our friends and neighbors better.”
MP is Minnesota’s largest independent medical business publication with a monthly circulation of 14,000. The June issue has become its most popular issue with the annual showcase of the year’s best Minnesota health care facilities.
