Southern Minnesota Educational Campus

Fairmont, MN

First constructed in 1928, the original Central School building in Fairmont had been remodeled over the years to accommodate many community needs, including offices, a preschool and childcare facilities and Fairmont’s Early Childhood Family Education program.

In 2004, the City of Fairmont, which owns the building, selected Paulsen Architects to completely renovate this important community facility into a much needed state-of-the-art education space. The renovated facility includes classrooms, computer and technology labs, nursing and biology/chemistry labs, an auditorium and lecture hall and administrative space.

Although the building underwent extensive interior and exterior renovations, one dramatic improvement involved replacing all the windows. During previous remodels, the original windows had been replaced by smaller window openings. Restoring the windows to their original size allows natural light to flood in and brings the building closer to its original design.

Paulsen Architects is also planning and designing the renovation of Fairmont Area Public Schools, which houses District administrative offices.
