Minnesota State University, Mankato—Centennial Student Union Game Room
Mankato, MN
This award-winning, completely remodeled and refinished Minnesota State University, Mankato Maverick Game Room is the result of a $1 million renovation, designed and led by Paulsen Architects.
Working with the student union board, student association and university staff with funding through student fees, Paulsen successfully transformed the dated basement - complete with water and ventilation problems -- from a space students simply "passed through" into a destination.
Home to the MSU Maverick Bowling team as well as academic classes, the new 18,877 sf area is now ADA Accessible and includes a video gaming area, billiards, table tennis, bowling lanes, a vending area and a lounge with comfortable seating, plasma screen TVs, high-definition viewing and surround sound. Students can gather a group of friends for a tournament or simply catch a break from studying.
This project was selected for the 2007 Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Renovation and Construction Showcase, an annual showcase that highlights the best in renewed student union spaces and presents union professionals with various approaches, plans and features to consider when faced with renovating challenges.
