Mankato Area Public Schools ISD #77 Rosa Parks Elementary School

Mankato, MN

The new Rosa Parks Elementary School, currently under construction, is an energy efficient and environmentally friendly school, designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Schools Gold certification. By minimizing operating costs and meeting maintenance needs, the district will maximize return on its investment through this new energy efficient, durable and long-lasting building. Some of the most environmentally friendly features are a ground source heat pump system for heating and cooling the school, occupancy sensors for lighting, regional and recycled material use, water saving fixtures and landscape and many indoor air quality strategies. The new school was also designed to take advantage of the latest technology to enhance learning, provide space for community use, meet the needs of a variety of students and be a safe place for learning.

Paulsen Architects assisted the Mankato Area Public Schools in planning for the referendum through construction administration on this school project. The school is under construction and will be open in time for some community education classes this summer and for the first day of school in the fall of 2010
