City of Mankato Riverfront Promenade

When the floodwall along the Minnesota River was built in the 1960s, it spared downtown Mankato future flooding, but it also cut off any connection to river. To enhance the experience of the river and reconnect the River to downtown, Paulsen Architects is working with the City to create a plaza along the riverfront. The plaza would feature a curved wall to accommodate river flow, an enhanced bike path along the river, convenient and welcoming places to stop along the path, a possible skyway from the civic center to the river and a large area with steps leading right down to the river.
